Exhibiting at a trade show: a guide from choice to results

An exhibition is one of the fastest ways to grow sales, find partners and build your brand: in a few days you hold meetings that would otherwise take months. Uzbekistan’s economy keeps opening up: according to the Statistics Agency, the country’s foreign trade turnover reached USD 81.2 billion in 2025 (+20.7%): exports of 33.8 billion and imports of 47.4 billion. In such a market, meeting a foreign partner face to face is the shortest path to a contract.
But results start before the show — with the right choice and preparation. Below are all the stages, from choosing an exhibition to measuring the outcome.
What does an exhibition give your business?
- Brand awareness. You present your products and services to a wide audience, including an international one.
- Business connections. You meet partners, buyers, distributors and suppliers in an informal setting, so trust builds faster.
- Market and competitor insight. Industry leaders’ offers, trends and new products are all in one place.
- Direct feedback. You launch a new product and hear buyers’ reactions on the spot.
- Sales. Demonstrations, special offers and presentations help you take orders right at the show.
Which exhibition should you choose?
Define your goal. Sales, new customers, brand, market research or partnerships — the goal tells you which show and which stand you need.
Study the audience. Ask the organizer or look at past results: who the visitors are (professionals, buyers or the general public), which companies exhibit and what they show.
Sources of information. Exhibition calendars and organizer websites, colleagues who have already taken part and, most reliably, visiting the show as a guest first.
Weigh costs against returns. Compare direct costs (stand, design, shipping, staff travel and accommodation) and your team’s time with the new customers and contracts you expect.
How should you prepare?
- 3–4 months ahead, book your stand — the best spots go early.
- The stand should be visible and easy to understand: bold design, multimedia, a chance to handle the product. SOF Expo can help with stand construction, furniture and equipment.
- Materials: a catalogue, a short presentation, business cards and giveaways.
- Team: 2–3 people on the stand who know the product’s advantages and answer questions politely.
- Invite in advance: send your stand number to customers and partners via social media and email, and schedule key meetings ahead.
What should you do during the show?
- Draw visitors to your stand: interactive demos, contests, tastings.
- After every conversation, note the contact and what interested them — it is hard to remember later.
- Hold your planned meetings, walk the other stands and study competitors.
What should you do after the show?
- Follow up with your contacts within a week, while the conversation is still fresh.
- Gather visitor feedback on your stand and product.
- Compare sales and contracts with your original goal. How to put numbers on the result — see our article on ROI and ROO.
